Stan's life-story is extraordinary and inspiring.  As a three-year-old boy, during the Second World War, the communal bomb shelter in which he was sat took a direct hit from a Nazi bomb, killing eighteen people inside.  Stan should never have survived, yet miraculously he did. This book documents how he faced those traumas, his struggles and successes, the people he met, and life on the comedy circuit in the 70s, 80s and 90s. We also discover the laughs, as well as an unlikely friendship with Hollywood hellraiser Oliver Reed. What really happened that night on the infamous Des O'Connor show and his joke about a Focke-Wulf airplane?  Was he really banned from television? It is a story about the man behind the laughter, and it will surprise many.
